Last week, we talked about veteran Sean Worsley being sentenced to prison for five years – because of medical cannabis. This week, we are hearing more news about cannabis and the military; however, this time, it’s uplifting! On Monday, July 20, the House of Representatives approved an amendment allowing military service members to use hemp and hemp-derived products, including CBD.

The measure was sponsored by Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) and states that the “Secretary of Defense may not prohibit, on the basis of a product containing hemp or any ingredient derived from hemp, the possession, use, or consumption of such product by a member of the Armed Forces” as long as the crop meets the federal definition of hemp and that “such possession, use, or consumption is in compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local law.”

The vote passed by a landslide, 336-71, along with other non-cannabis related amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The bill also allows those who admit to using cannabis or were convicted of a misdemeanor, to reenlist.

Gabbard is a veteran herself, as well as a former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate. She also filed a bill called the “Hemp for Victory Act,” which would encourage federal research on various uses of hemp.

Back in February, the Department of Defense (DOD) issued a policy that prohibited all military service members from using hemp products, including CBD, despite its legal status, due to potential exposure to excess THC.

At MyCureAll, we feel this is an important step in the right direction. Many veterans use CBD oil for a variety of purposes, many related to their military service, such as PTSD, insomnia, anxiety, or pain. It would be even better if all forms of medical cannabis were allowed, for those who need it. Many people do quite well with CBD alone; however, others need more potent medical cannabis to help their symptoms.

Jacques Nir, LCSW, CFO of MyCureAll, states, “According to va.gov, 11-20% of all veterans are diagnosed with PTSD. As a clinician, this number is vague and presents a wide deviation that underscores treatment in the long run. At MyCureAll we are proud of the women and men that bravely serve our country and we want to ensure that each veteran understands what strain of medical cannabis or what type of CBD products improve their symptoms.”

MyCureAll offers a wide variety of CBD products, such as CBD oils, topicals, and flowers, for all of your CBD needs. Check out our Shopify store. All of our products are pharmacist-formulated and tested extensively for purity.
