CBD Products and Purity

Karen Berger, PharmD, Medical Writer

Have you ever purchased CBD oil without looking further into how it was made or tested? In a June 17th letter, four US consumer groups called on federal lawmakers at the House of Representatives and Senate to reject rushed approvals of CBD products (you can see the full letter here).

The groups who wrote the letter included:

In the letter, the four parties warned that “forcing the FDA

(U.S. Food & Drug Administration) into rushed decisions and to prematurely implement major regulatory changes would result in an unsafe CBD market.”

The four entities, which represent public health and safety as well as quality of products, state the importance of assuring safety and quality, and not rushing CBD products to market.

Some of the problems (related to rushed approvals) cited in the letter included:

  • Wrong THC content labeled

  • Contamination with heavy metals

  • CBD products appealing to children

  • Promotion of CBD for alleviation of pregnancy symptoms

The consumer groups also ask the FDA to request scientific evidence regarding safety, quality, and adverse effects, which would incentivize serious study of CBD products.

MyCureAll: Our Take

With the stress of COVID-19, we know that people are experiencing anxiety, depression, and the need to self medicate, and many turn to CBD oil, which many patients use for alleviation of these symptoms. In addition to these conditions, many people rely on CBD oil to help with other symptoms such as those associated with Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis, PTSD, opioid use disorder, and other conditions. We agree that the CBD oil used must be carefully studied to ensure proper labeling and no contamination. It’s important not to rush to buy just any CBD product, and to make sure that the CBD product you purchase is of high quality.

Remember that the term “all natural” does not necessarily mean that it is safe for you, if the proper testing has not been done. Natural products, such as CBD oils, do not fall under the same regulations (and mandatory clinical trials before approval) as prescription drugs.

Wherever you buy your CBD products, make sure the products have undergone independent lab testing for accurate labeling and for contamination. Always review the COA’s! Your CBD or hemp oil merchant should provide their own independent lab testing.

At MyCureAll, we believe that it is important to offer high quality CBD. We offer a full line of  CBD products such as CBD oils, flowers, and topicals. All of our products are pharmacist-formulated, grown in the USA, and undergo extensive third-party testing for purity.
